Dry Acheron Track

The Dry Acheron Track starts from the Lake Coleridge Road approximately 8 km from Windwhistle and 4 km before Lake Coleridge township. There is a small car park beside the road. The track is 7 km long, 5 km of relatively flat walking along a riverbed and 2 km steep walking up onto the Big Ben Range. On the track trampers and walkers can reach Dry Acheron Stream. They can also view two covenants on the Dry Acheron Station with interesting rock formations and vegetation. Trampers are able to use the track to gain access to Mt Big Ben and can traverse the Big Ben Range to Ben More and Porter's Pass, in the Korowai Torlesse Tussocklands Park. Mountainbikes and dogs are not permitted on the track. The track is provided courtesy of the owners of Dry Acheron and Big Ben Stations. Please keep to the marked route. If there is problems with the track please let the Department of Conservation at Arthur’s Pass know.
